Atlantic bridge Colón

Panama

We are proud to have contributed to the construction of the Atlantic Bridge in Colón, Panama, by equipping the following cranes with AMCS anticollision systems:

4 x POTAIN MC310
2 x POTAIN MC235
1 x POTAIN MD 610
1 x POTAIN MD 600

This concrete cable-stayed bridge, measuring 1,050 metres in total length with a central span of 530 metres, is the longest cable-stayed concrete bridge in the world. Its pylons rise to 212.5 metres, and the deck offers a clearance of 75 metres, allowing the passage of Post-Panamax vessels. Located 3 kilometres north of the Gatún Locks, the bridge connects the Atlantic and Pacific sides of the Panama Canal, providing a permanent crossing that operates independently of the locks.

Construction began in January 2013 and was completed in August 2019. The bridge addresses a major accessibility issue: before its construction, there was no permanent road connection across this section of the canal. The Atlantic Bridge significantly improves mobility, fosters economic development in the Colón region, and strengthens the integration of Panama’s national road network.

Our role was to equip all cranes used on site with AMCS systems, ensuring safe and efficient crane operations on this complex and strategically vital project.
